Bulk Instagram DMs from your own account

Install the virev browser extension, connect your Instagram account, and queue outreach DMs that send at a human pace.

How it works

Instagram's official API cannot start a conversation — a business may only reply to someone who messaged it first. So cold outreach has to come from a real signed-in Instagram session.

The extension is that session. You stay signed into Instagram in your own browser; virev holds the queue and the message text, and the extension sends each one from your account. virev never sees your Instagram password, cookies, or session.

Recipients see a message from you, not from a virev account. A first message to someone who does not follow you lands in their Requests folder.

Install the extension

The extension is a Chrome extension. Load it once, and leave it installed — it only acts on Instagram and on virev.ai.

Open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the extension folder. If it is already loaded, press Reload — a stale copy is the most common cause of a browser that will not connect.

Chrome must stay open for DMs to send. Sending pauses while the browser is closed and resumes when you open it again.

Connect your browser

Settings, then Instagram DM, shows whether the extension is installed. Until it is, there is nothing to connect and the button stays disabled — that is the check, not an error.
Sign into Instagram in the same browser, as the account you want the DMs to come from.
Open Settings, then Instagram DM, and choose Connect this browser. The extension picks up the connection automatically; if it does not, copy the token it shows into the extension popup.
Only one browser per workspace sends. Connect a second one and it registers as standby; pick which one sends from the same settings page.

Queue your DMs

Open a creator from search or a campaign and start an Instagram outreach. In the composer, choose From your Instagram under Send from.
Write the message and choose Enqueue DM. Nothing sends immediately: the message is queued on virev and the extension collects it on its next check, then sends it within the pacing window.
Queue as many as you like. They send one at a time, in order, and the queue survives closing the tab or restarting the browser.

How sending is paced

Sending is deliberately slow. Instagram restricts accounts that send quickly or send identical messages, and a restriction lands on your account, not ours.

A randomized gap between every message, never a fixed interval.
A longer randomized pause after every batch.
A daily ceiling, which resets at your local midnight.
An automatic stop after several failures in a row.

Vary your message text. Identical copy sent repeatedly is the pattern Instagram acts on most reliably.

When it stops sending

Open the extension popup — it states the current status and why sending is on hold.

Offline in settings means the browser is closed, or Chrome has suspended it. Open the browser.
Logged out means Instagram ended the session. Sign into Instagram again and sending resumes on its own.
Instagram blocked the request means Instagram is rate-limiting the account. Stop for the day and resume tomorrow at a lower volume.
Standby means another browser is the sender for this workspace. Choose this one in Settings.

A message whose outcome we could not confirm is marked delivery unconfirmed and is never sent again automatically — resending could message someone twice.
